Lower48 Kitchen - Lawrence St

Our favorite part about L48 is their menu changes daily. You'll never have the same thing twice at this place if you don't want to and that is awesome. Their dishes are close to flawless, the Ulysses cocktail is delicious and they have a great by the bottle wine selection. They have an array of $2 and $4 bites making it easy to try a variety before your main meal (we love the hoe cake & corn dog). BONUS: they have great counter seating that lets you watch the chefs in action.

Wazee Supper Club - Lodo

We've spent many an afternoon/evening saddled up to the bar at WSC when we're in the mood for quality bar food and a beer (or 3). They always have a solid local & craft beer selection and they make a perfect jalapeño marg. The staff is on point and they have something on the menu to cure every craving. Husband adores their fish & chips and I have a bizarre soft spot for their Mile High Pizza (peanut butter, bacon & pickles) it's so weird and so good. Everybody loves their Frings so make sure to order a round.

UPDATE: Noticed WSC is under new management! Stay tuned for a new review.

Crock Spot - food truck

In the mood for a more laid back date night? Find the Crock Spot food truck and pull up a seat on the curb. They have an awesomely extensive build-your-own bowl menu of delicious slow cooked items and sauces (the cilantro lime rice and jalapeño shredded beef are insane and the balsamic gastrique is heavenly). BONUS: they post their weekly schedule here:

Cebiche - LoHi/32nd Ave

Cebiche seems to get overlooked and that's a crying shame because the food is worth stopping in for. We asked for menu recommendations and loved everything they helped us choose (try the Pescado a la Chorillana, Bistek a lo Pobre & Chilcano de Pescado) and the cebiche is amazing. I wish we could buy a bag of the crunchy corn kernels they leave on the table to munch on, delicious. The indoor atmosphere isn't the greatest but their patio makes up for it.

Sassafrass - LoHi & Cap Hill

Southern Belle Secret #48: A good day doesn't begin til you've had a slap your mama good breakfast.. and Sassafrass will make your sun rise. They know their way around a down home kitchen and serve up an amazing breakfast and lunch. They offer everything from beignets to frog legs to deviled eggs and every damn thing in-between. The benedicts will blow your mind (try the Deep South). Get your keester in there to start your day off right or put a smile back on your face at lunch time.

The Universal - LoHi/38th Ave

Universal knows its way around homestyle breakfast with a twist. Their Grits of the Day are always badass (out of the ordinary like Korean BBQ) and the Italian BLT will knock your socks off. We've had nothing but seamless service and will definitely be back soon. BONUS: They display great, local art for purchase.

Highland Tap & Burger - LoHi

It's annoyingly popular with the college kids but if you time it right (don't go on a game day or before 2pm on weekends if you're not in the mood for crowds), you can easily enjoy a meal at HT&B in peace and it's damn sure worth it. They have a great beer selection (obviously) and man oh man the duck fat fries are crazy good. The burgers are top notch (we love the Lohi Luau, Green Chili & Rocky Mtn) and their App menu has some out of the ordinary options (pierogies, anyone?). Did I mention the duck fat fries????

Uncle - LoHi

This is one hell of a ramen shop! They have a perfect selection of ever changing starter plates and sweet baby Jesus the ramen is awesome (the duck and the spicy chicken are out of this world). Their Bibimbop rivals the best and they have a great selection of both hot/cold sake. Be ready to street park -but check the small/free lot on the west side of the bldg first it gets overlooked- and this place is tiny and busy with no reservations so time things right or make sure you have time to wait a bit (worth it).

Lola - LoHi

Lola has a great location -next door to Little Man ice cream with plenty of other places to wander to- and delicious food. We are huge fans of their margarita menu (esp the Dr. J Coin). They make Mexican food with a yummy as hell flair that we've never had with these dishes (they don't just do enchiladas, they do lobster enchiladas...hell yes). The Cold Bar items are not to be missed and trust me, you want to order dessert here.

Masterpiece Deli - LoHi

We had the most relaxing lunch date and MD was the cherry on top! This deli is located on Central St at the end of the The Highland Bridge. Stop in and stock up on awesome sandwiches and sides (try the white truffle egg salad or pastrami special, divine) then walk or bike across the bridge and pick a picnic spot** in the park. They're always busy so call ahead if you're placing a To Go order to save yourself the wait. BONUS: Want to make a day of it? You can take the 16th St Mall ride straight down then walk/bike over to the deli.
We don't do pics for this blog but this date deserved one :)

Jelly - Cap Hill

If you're searching for a morning or afternoon date spot, this is it! Their hash options and sliders (you gotta try the Rustic) will start your day off right and their sandwiches (pass the SBLT please) and burgers (the Caprese!!) will keep the day going. Most importantly, try the donuts. BONUS: They keep the early bird style cocktails flowing and make a mean bloody mary. The Izzi sparkler will have you hitting the liquor store for the necessaries to make your own at home.

Linger - LoHi

If you're down with eating in a renovated mortuary then grab your appetite and your EMF detector because this is your kind of place. They serve dishes from all over the world and most of them are out of this world. Their Devils on Horseback and Mongolian BBQ Duck are the stuff dreams are made of. We prefer Linger in the evening when they have their full selection of smaller plates available making it easy to try a bunch of different things and share. Remember this spot is in LoHi (which currently means annoyingly popular & busy) so make a res. BONUS: it's next door to little Man Ice Cream.

VooDoo Doughnuts - City Park/E Colfax Ave

This is one hell of a fun place to grab a doughnut with your Honey for a brunch date or a post date dessert. Pick an hour any hour because they're open 24/7. It's a serious task to choose from the crazy ass selection but there is definitely something for everyone. We love the Voodoo Doll, Grape Ape and Dirt Doughnut. They only accept cash so bring some or hope like haities that their in-house ATM isn't out of dough.

Bistro Barbès! - Park Hill

This restaurant proves that big taste can come from the tiniest of kitchens. The chef has a truly thoughtful menu combining traditional French with global flavors in the tastiest ways that make you want to fly your ass straight to Boulevard Barbès for a week of eating.* We dove face first into an amazing french onion soufflé that I'll be thinking about for weeks then fell in love with escargot wrapped into flawless ravioli. Perfect service (a rare find indeed!) but super small so make a res.

UPDATE: 6-18-15
We were hugely disappointed on a return visit to BB last night. The restaurant was hot and stuffy due to their open garage door with flies zipping around, eww. We waited over an hour for our entrees to arrive and were not impressed when they finally did. Gone was the plated perfection of our last visit and in it's place was very salty sea bass and lackluster sides although the duck was amazing. No mention or apology from the staff even though every table around us was clearly in the same position, hot, waiting and hungry. Not sure we'll be back anytime soon. Double darn.

Venice - LoDo

There is nowhere to begin or end on what to try from this menu. Try everything possible. Go back 5 times. You won't regret it. Our absolute favorites (if we are forced to choose) are the Carpaccio al Profumo di Tartufo, Raviloli di Salsiccia and the Tagliatelle Bolognese. They're great at helping you pair wine to your courses. Hurry the hell up, your dinner is waiting! Bonus: they're a short walk from Tattered Cover.

P17 - Uptown

We've done both lunch and dinner here and will definitely be back. They have a unique global menu that is pared down perfectly and never overwhelming to choose from. In for lunch? The Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich is out of this world and their salads are beyond amazing (especially the Tuna Nicoise). Dinner time? Be sure to try any pasta or Indian dish they're offering, they do them so well. The Dreadnaught and Chronic gin & tonic are freaking amazing. It's a small place so make a res!

Russell's Smokehouse - Larimer/LoDo

Husband found this place via a business lunch and said he knew right away it was the place for me. I have hunted high and low for amazing BBQ in Colorado for the last decade (after moving from Atlanta) and I damn sure finally found it y'all. Located downstairs on Larimer with an attached speakeasy (Green Russell) this is easily our new favorite place. We went all in and ordered the Combo Ribs and Combo Plate then piled on extra sides including a biscuit and jalapeño cornbread (in my book southern food is truly measured not just by the bbq, but also by the awesomeness of the southern bread*). My hopes were high and I needed to get a big ass appetite opinion. Everything was across the board amazing. We're talking this is the stuff you get at an award winning roadside BBQ house down south. When I closed my eyes, I was back in GA for a minute. Hallelujah!

Vesta Dipping Grill - LoDo

We had no idea how much we love dipping sauces until we ate at Vesta. We found out we love dipping so much that I bought the damn cookbook on our way out the door. We recommend every single sauce (try them with the chorizo spiced pork and creole prawns). And for the love of everything holy, if you grill out in the summer, buy their book.*

*our faves to make when grilling:
- spicy watermelon
- wasabi cream sauce
- black pepper aïoli
- red eye bacon syrup
- carolina bbq sauce
